How to Play Proximath™
Proximath is a free daily word game where every letter in the alphabet has a number value. A=1, B=2, C=3, all the way to Z=26. Your goal is to guess the hidden word in seven attempts. After each guess, every tile shows you exactly how far away your letter is from the correct one, and which direction to go in the alphabet.
Understanding the Tile Colours
Each tile uses a colour to show the distance between your guessed letter and the correct letter. Green means your letter is exactly right — no arrow is shown because there is nowhere to go. Blue means your letter is just one step away in the alphabet — very close, and the arrow tells you whether to go one step higher or lower. Yellow means your letter is between two and five steps away — you are in the right neighbourhood but need a more significant adjustment. Orange means your letter is between six and ten steps away — a meaningful gap but the directional arrow gives you a clear target range. Red means your letter is eleven or more steps away — far from the answer, but the arrow still points you in the right direction.
Reading the Direction Arrows
Every tile except green shows a directional arrow alongside the colour. An upward arrow means your guessed letter is too low in the alphabet and you need to go higher — closer to Z. A downward arrow means your guessed letter is too high in the alphabet and you need to go lower — closer to A. For example if you guess the letter D and see an orange tile with an upward arrow, you know the correct letter is between 6 and 10 steps higher than D in the alphabet — somewhere between J and N.
Using the A-Z Distance Guide
Proximath includes a built-in A-Z Distance Guide panel to help you calculate distances. Tap or click the A-Z Distance Guide button to open the panel. Click any letter to see every other letter in the alphabet colour coded by its distance from your selected letter — using the same green, blue, yellow, orange and red system as the tiles. This is especially useful in Midday and Evening Mode where some or all direction arrows are removed.
The Three Daily Modes
Proximath offers three daily word challenges, each resetting at a different time and increasing in difficulty. Morning Mode is the standard version with five letters, seven guesses and full colour and arrow information on every tile. It resets at midnight UK time and is free to play without an account. Midday Mode increases the challenge with six letters and a crucial rule change — blue tiles no longer show a direction arrow. You know you are one step away from the correct letter but not which direction to go. Midday resets at noon UK time. Evening Mode is the hardest challenge with seven letters and no direction arrows on any tile at any colour. You can see how far away each letter is from the tile colour alone, with no directional guidance whatsoever. Evening Mode resets at 6pm UK time and requires a free account.
Scoring and the Leaderboard
Points are awarded based on how few guesses you use to solve each word. Solving in one guess earns the maximum points. Solving in seven guesses earns fewer points. Failing to solve the word earns zero points. Complete all three daily modes in a single day and earn a bonus five points. Points accumulate on the monthly leaderboard throughout the month. The top player at the end of the month wins a £10 Amazon gift card. The leaderboard resets on the first of every month giving every player a fresh start.
Streaks and Badges
Your streak counts how many consecutive days you have completed the Morning game. Missing a day resets your streak to zero. Reach streak milestones of 7, 14, 30, 60 and 100 days to earn permanent badges that display on your player profile. Badges are awarded based on your best streak ever — even if your current streak is broken your earned badges remain on your profile permanently.
Tips for New Players
Start your first guess with letters spread across the alphabet — covering early, middle and late letters gives you the broadest possible colour information from your first attempt. Use the A-Z Distance Guide panel to map out possible letters for each position based on the colours and arrows you have seen. In Morning Mode pay close attention to blue tiles — being one step away is very close and the arrow tells you exactly where to go. In Midday Mode when a blue tile has no arrow, use the A-Z panel to identify the two possible letters and think about which makes more sense given the other tiles. In Evening Mode patience and systematic elimination are more important than intuition — work through the colour information methodically rather than guessing.
Challenging Friends
After completing the Morning game you can challenge a friend directly. Click the Challenge a Friend on WhatsApp button in the end of game screen to generate a unique challenge link. Your friend receives the link, plays the same Morning word, and signs up to see who won. The result screen shows both scores side by side so you can see exactly who solved the word in fewer guesses.
