Proximath™ — Free Daily Word Game Where Every Letter Has a Distance
About Proximath™ — The Daily Alphabet Distance Word Game
Proximath™ is a daily word game with a twist. Instead of simply telling you whether a letter is in the word or not, every tile shows you exactly how far away your letter is from the correct one — measured as a distance through the alphabet.
Each day a new five-letter word is chosen. You have seven attempts to guess it. After each guess, the tiles reveal not just whether you were right, but how close each of your letters was — and which direction you need to go.
The alphabet runs from A to Z, and each step between adjacent letters counts as one unit of distance. If the target letter is T and you guessed R, that is two steps away. If you guessed A and the answer is W, that is twenty-two steps away. The colour of each tile tells you how close you were, and the arrow tells you which direction to adjust.
Morning, Midday and Evening — Three Daily Challenges
We want Proximath™ to be enjoyable for everyone. Use the icons in the top-left of the header to customise your experience:
- Colour Blind Mode — we believe great games should be accessible to all. Toggle this icon to switch to a colour blind friendly palette that works for players with colour vision deficiency.
- Colour Key — click to see what each tile colour and direction means at any time during the game.

How the Colour and Arrow System Works
Each tile uses a five-colour system based on alphabet distance:
- Green — exact match. Your letter is correct and in the right position. No arrow is shown.
- Blue — your letter is just one step away in the alphabet. Very close. An arrow points in the direction of the correct letter.
- Yellow — two to five steps away. You are in the right area but need a more significant adjustment.
- Orange — six to ten steps away. A meaningful gap, but the arrow gives you direction.
- Red — eleven or more steps away. Your letter is far from the target.
The arrows work as follows: an up arrow ⬆️ means your guessed letter is too early in the alphabet — you need to guess a letter that comes later. A down arrow ⬇️ means your letter is too late in the alphabet — guess something earlier. For example, if you see a Blue tile with an up arrow on the letter H, the answer for that position is I.
How the Day Ranking Works
Proximath ranks your performance using a Monday to Sunday scale based on how many guesses you needed to solve the word. The fewer guesses, the better your day.
- Monday — solved in 1 guess. An extraordinary result.
- Tuesday — solved in 2 guesses. Excellent play.
- Wednesday — solved in 3 guesses. Well above average.
- Thursday — solved in 4 guesses. A solid performance.
- Friday — solved in 5 guesses. A respectable result.
- Saturday — solved in 6 guesses. Scraping through.
- Sunday — 7 guesses or failed to solve. A tough day at the office.
Your profile page shows your overall day ranking, calculated as an average across all the games you have played. Regular players can track their streaks, win rate, and see how their performance is distributed across the week.
Tips for Playing Proximath™
- Start with letters from the middle of the alphabet. Letters like M, N, and O split the alphabet roughly in half, which gives you the most useful directional information from your first guess. This is the Proximath™ equivalent of a strong opening word.
- Use Blue tiles aggressively. A Blue tile means you are just one letter off. If you see a Blue tile with an up arrow on the letter D, the answer is E. Blue is your best friend — act on it immediately in your next guess.
- Think about the arrows together, not individually. A Red tile tells you a letter is far away, but combined with the arrow direction across all five positions, you can often narrow down the answer quickly even after a poor first guess.
- A new word is available every day at midnight. Proximath™ is a daily game — one word per day, shared by all players. Come back each day to maintain your streak and improve your ranking.
